Horse Riding

Thomsens Ridecenter (10-15 walk from the house – Google Maps)

We welcome you to our fantastic horseback riding experiences in the forest, on the beach, and in beautiful dune plantations! Our horses are carefully selected to ensure you have an unforgettable riding adventure.

We have various types of horses available – big, medium, and small – in breeds such as Haflinger, Fjord horse, Irish Cob, Freiberger, Icelandic, Hanoverian, Oldenburg, and many more.

Our island offers excellent riding trails that take you through the forest and dune plantations, where heather blooms and pine trees line the paths. When you take a brisk gallop around the corners, remember to hold onto your hat and glasses! For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, the landscape offers a beautiful journey, where you can enjoy the woods at a comfortable walk.

During the beach rides, you’ll experience Rømø, home to Northern Europe’s widest sandy beach. Our horses will have plenty of room to stretch their legs. You can choose a ride on one of our fantastic Icelandic horses, tölting all the way down to the water. We’ll search for seashells and amber and enjoy the fresh breeze from the North Sea. Experienced riders will have the opportunity to enjoy a delightful gallop along the beach on one of our larger horses, while pony riders can also find suitable ponies. Please note that beach rides are not suitable for beginners and require experienced riders.

We offer horseback riding almost year-round, with only a short winter break in November and in January and February. Otherwise, as a general rule, we ride from Easter to November and also during Christmas if weather permits. Our Icelandic horses are available throughout the year.

During busy periods, we have two daily rides, at 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM. In winter, we only have morning rides due to the shorter days, but scheduling can be arranged individually to suit your preferences.

We form groups based on individual needs, with a maximum of 7 riders in each group. The groups are divided into forest rides with different levels such as walk, walk/trot, walk/trot/canter, and there are also beach rides. Personal attendance at the stable is essential for us to better assess which horse fits each rider best.

For experienced riders, we offer a special tour on our Icelandic horses, where you can learn to tölt, but this requires a basic riding experience.

Beginners will get to ride calm horses during the forest tours.

We value our horses’ well-being and provide them with breaks after the rides, returning them to the pasture. You are welcome to assist with fetching and bringing back the horses, so please allow an extra half-hour before and after the ride.

To ensure the well-being of our Icelandic horses, we have an upper weight limit of 90 kg for riders, while the maximum weight limit for regular horses is 100 kg. We look forward to welcoming you to an amazing horseback riding experience!
